HISTORY

The Nantucket Golf Club Foundation (NGCF) was founded in 2002 by the original Nantucket Golf Club (NGC) Board of Directors: Fred Green, Ed Hajim, and Robert Greenhill. Tom Bresette has served as the Executive Director of NGCF since its inception. The inaugural Children’s Charity Classic, an annual golf tournament and dinner and auction that funds the Foundation, was first held in 2002 and raised an unprecedented $640,000. 

The Foundation began by distributing funds to island nonprofits who shared in its mission, and that work continues today. The Foundation has awarded grants to over 100 local organizations serving children and youth. 

Recognizing the importance of a quality education, the Board decided to expand the direction and focus of NGCF to include scholarships for local students pursuing undergraduate degree programs. In 2006, the Nantucket Scholar Program was born. Several years later the Board elected to grow the scholarship program to include opportunities for students seeking professional and vocational educational opportunities. The Nantucket Professional Scholarship Program began in 2018.

Today, NGCF has raised over $50 million, has 80 active scholarship recipients enrolled in post-secondary educational programs, and supports numerous nonprofits.

Nantucket Children's Charity Classic

The Nantucket Children’s Charity Classic is an annual event, consisting of a golf tournament, dinner, and auction, that funds the Foundation. Every August this beloved event inspires the members of the Nantucket Golf Club, their guests, and others, to contribute to the future of Nantucket’s children and youth.

Through their generous contributions, the Nantucket Golf Club has raised over $50 million. Those funds directly support the Foundation’s signature initiatives, the scholarship and grant programs, as well as occasional capital contributions to worthy, local causes benefiting island kids. The tremendous support given to these worthwhile programs by the members and friends of the Nantucket Golf Club Foundation is sincerely appreciated.
